Janine Jozwiak M.S., L.Ac.

Nature’s Balance Acupuncture

Where Did You Grow Up?

Illinois

Physician Biography:

Janine Jozwiak earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Psychology from Loyola University and a Master of Science degree in Counseling from George Williams College. Janine spent several years in private practice providing individual counseling to children and adults.

Janine left the health care field for a short period during which time she was a Project Director at Sears, Roebuck and Company. During this time, she directed a team of 20 project managers and the Quality Assurance organization accountable for successfully delivering an $82 million portfolio of projects for Home Services and Corporate Systems.

As a Project Director at Sears, Janine utilized her understanding of people to help them reach their highest personal potential while delivering impressive results for the company.

In 2002, Janine returned to the health care field and earned a Masters in Acupuncture from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine. During this three year, 2,000+ hour, intensive program, Janine learned Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) “Zang Fu” system of physiology, pathology, diagnosis, and treatment strategy. In addition to all the Chinese Medicine coursework, the curriculum provided a solid foundation in needle technique, traditional accessory modalities, and the Western sciences such as anatomy, physiology, neurology and pharmacology. Janine also spent over 600 hours in the Midwest College’s student clinics. In the clinics, Janine was able to gain invaluable experience treating a wide range of medical conditions. While building her knowledge and skills, Janine was also able to fine-tune her patient/healer sensitivities.

Janine graduated from the Midwest College program Summa Cum Laude and immediately passed the National Board exam and became a licensed Acupuncturist in the State of Illinois.

In July 2007, Janine opened Nature’s Balance Acupuncture in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Nature’s Balance mission is to help as many people as possible in their quest for optimum health. In order to accomplish this mission, Janine works to educate her patients as well as the surrounding communities on the benefits of Oriental Medicine so that they may, in turn, educate others.

Janine has received extensive training from a master in a 2,500 year old method of acupuncture called “The Balance Method”. This method uses the strongest of all 2,000+ points found on the body in order to achieve amazing results, with pain relief often occurring within seconds. Over a series of treatments, long lasting relief can be achieved approximately 80% of the time.

Janine lives in Woodstock with her husband Dan and their 2 cats, Biscuit and Mafdet. Janine is a yoga enthusiast and in her spare time, likes to garden, rollerblade, bike, hike and photograph wildlife and nature.

Specialties and Strengths:

Janine is also a member of the prestigious Foundation for Wellness Professionals. The Foundation of Wellness Professionals is a national non-profit organization composed of health care providers who educate their communities on wellness and disease prevention. Janine has received advanced training in managing women’s issues, as well as stress reduction methods and nutrition. Lastly, Janine is a Reiki Master and is trained in the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu. FDA Reviewing Arthritis Drugs for inflammation, Possible Links to Cancer

By Pete Wisniewski

According to the Associated Press on July 7th 2008, The FDA is investigating a group of popular arthritis drugs made by Schering-Plough Corp, Abbott Laboratories, and other companies whether they increase the risk of cancer in young peoples. The FDA said it has received 30 reports of children developing cancer while taking the drugs over the last 10 years. Lymphomas, leukemia, melanoma and cancers of various organs were reported.

Abbott Labs’ Humira, Schering-Plough’s Remicade, Wyeth’s Cimzia, and Amgen Incare’s Enbrel, are the anti-inflammatory drugs under review. They are given to children to treat inflammation disorders such as Crohn’s disease and Juvenal arthritis. 70,000 to 100,000 children in the United States have juvenile idiopathic arthritis which in past years has put children in wheelchairs.

Abbott’s Humira and Schering-Plough’s Remicade were their best selling drugs in excess of $4.65 billion dollars in sales.*

Safe Alternative Strategies to Control Inflammation- The Elimination Diet

Understanding inflammation is important in an array of different situations. Dr. Stuart White recommends starting with a forgotten technology, the elimination diet. He says, “The inability of the body to manage inflammatory levels of prostaglandins and cytokines causing immune hyperactivity is one of the challenges that faces us in modern society. There are more and more things that cause reaction and inflammation to burden the body attempting to seek balance. Usually by age 40 there begins to be chronic elevated inflammatory levels resulting in joint and muscle (musculo-skeletal) conditions. Adrenal hormones are increased to attempt to balance the levels of inflammation resulting in anxiety and panic syndromes and finally general adrenal exhaustion.

The ability to buffer acidity (pH) through proper ionic calcium supplementation is one of the most important mechanisms that we must support in our body. By keeping the body alkaline and balanced we may reduce in the inflammatory responses resulting from acidosis (abnormal condition of excess acid in the body).

Another solution in reducing inflammation is to unburden the body of its chronic immune burdens, especially that of allergies. Many environmental allergies that we suffer from are actually secondary allergies being driven by primary allergic responses, principally to foods. It has always been obvious in clinical practice that when basic food allergies are corrected environmental sensitivities vanish. For example by simply taking a person off of a basic food allergy like milk or wheat oftentimes there will no longer be an environmental sensitivity to cats or dogs. The basic four food allergies are wheat, milk, corn and soy (followed by beef, tomato, peanut, chocolate). The hypo-antigenic diet consists of eliminating these eight foods.

Usually within three days of elimination chronic inflammation reduces and the elevated adrenal responses down regulate. Although change will continue for months after eliminating a basic food allergy, change is felt immediately, sometimes as increased energy, clarity of mind, digestive wellness, and a reduction of symptoms. By simply reducing these items experimentally for two weeks at a time and then reintroducing the allergen it is apparent as to whether a food allergy is occurring.

Upon re-introduction of an eliminated food allergy one may notice an immediate inflammatory response such as a rash, itching or burning eyes. It may also cause aching in the body. Sometimes two or three days later after the re-introduction of the food allergen a virus or cold or immune issue may occur, which means that the food allergy caused inflammation in the gut lining which lost its ability to be sealed and impermeable letting resident virus in the lumen of the intestine to leak into the blood. Then the body has to manage a viral process.

In practice this is been so successful that I no longer respect the environmental allergies until after these basic food allergies have been eliminated. Once the inflammatory levels of the body have had an opportunity to normalize then one may determine what allergies are actually real and what allergies were just secondary to an elevated inflammatory system.**”

Tools of the Trade

Where do you start when treating inflammation? How long should the program continue for? When starting a diet to degrade inflammation, diet must be first and foremost. The following can be used as a step by step outline for dealing with systemic inflammation and should be used for informational purposes only.

  1. Remove offenders (The basic four food allergies are wheat, milk, corn and soy (followed by beef, tomato, peanut, chocolate)
    • Standard Process’ Detoxification Program for three weeks
  2. Strengthen Digestion using Zypan or Multizyme and Gastrex
  3. Clean Up Fungal Overgrowth
Note: The only way to get rid of yeast is to starve it by consuming nutritional yeast (Zymex). After the yeast dies, use Spanish Black Radish to clean up the bowel.
  4. Remove Parasites
Note: Check the color of the feces through inquiry- too dark means gut lining inflamed and possibly seeping blood (seek immediate medical attention) - too light indicates insufficient bile from gallbladder

    • Parasite Protocol:
      • Multizyme: 3×2/day
      • Garlic 500mg tablets: 1×3/day
      • Lact-Enz: 3×2/day between meals
      • Wormwood Complex- 2×2/day before meals with 1 OPC Synergy
      • Zymex II: Promotes protein metabolism, “enzyme that digests insect tissue” Made out of defatted fig and almond bran, papain, bromelain, amylase, lipase, cellulose, and ficin.
    • If gallbladder suspect:
      • A-F Beatafood: 5×3/day Used to increase bile flow. Great liver supporting product, in high doses (12-18) can stop gallbladder attack.
      • Choline: 1×3/day
      • 1 teaspoon Olive Oil twice per day
  5. Add anti-inflammatory herbs like Boswellia Complex from MediHerb.
  6. Strengthen Gut Lining after offenders have been removed.
Note: Not all at once initially
Note: Gut lining issues will put excessive stress on the Adrenal Glands

    • According to Dr. Bruce Bond, a weak gut lining can enable undigested proteins to enter the blood stream and cause an array of inflammatory processes. His Gut Lining Protocol is as follows:
      • Cataplex A-C: 2×3/day Natural antibiotic, which stimulates and supports the body’s immune system in digesting bacteria. Dr. Royal Lee’s first adrenal support product.
      • Gastro-Fiber: 3×2/day Helps move the bowels and maintain healthy lining in the GI Tract.
      • L-Glutamine: 1,500 mg/day
      • Chlorophyll Perles: 1×2/day empty stomach.
      • Dermatrophin PMG: 1×2/day Protomorphogen for skin disorders, especially epithelial tissue. Will act as a dummy antigen giving skin tissues time for healing.
      • Lact-Enz: 3×2/day between meals. Probiotics’ lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium longum used for GI tract health
      • Trace Minerals B12: 1×3/day Supports myriad enzyme systems

In Conclution

Dr. Stuart White maintains, “As always, often time answers are simpler than we have suspected. Basic food allergies are oftentimes the result of genetic predispositions, blood types and unique metabolism. Reducing inflammation will lengthen our lives, reduce discomfort, especially of the musculo-skeletal nature, and spare the immune system to be active in ways that protect us from more important issues than chronic inflammation.**” Please ask your physician if this information can benefit you in any way.
